Swedish indie pop: The Mary Onettes perform at Garfield Artworks
Sat, May 17, 8 p.m.
Garfield Artworks
4931 Penn Avenue, Friendship

The Swedish Invasion is in full bloom, as Scandinavian popsters like the Shout Out Louds, Jens Lekman, the Conkretes, and Peter Bjorn and John have taken up where ABBA left off.
This Saturday, one of Sweden's latest musical exports brings its brand of moody retro pop to
Garfield Artworks. Formed in the lovely Swedish town of Jönköping in 2000,
The Mary Onettes released their debut EP on Sony/BMG in 2005, and signed to Stockholm-based indie label
Labrador Records in the spring of 2006. The group has since switched coasts, settling in and building a new studio in Gothenburg.
Built around the songwriting of Philip Ekström, as well as a collective love of '80s pop, The Mary Onettes also features members Henrik Ekström, Petter Agurén, Simon Fransson, Daniel Ottey, and Petra Hallberg. Fans of The Church, Jesus and Mary Chain and The Cure will feel quite at home within the moody sonic landscapes of The Mary Onettes.
On tour to support their new self-titled album, The Mary Onettes share the bill with
The Sexes, Life in Bed and The Silent Years. Advance tickets for the 8 p.m. show are available at Eide's
Entertainment, Dave's Music Mine, Paul's CDs, Caliban Books, Wicked
Discs, and The Exchange Squirrel Hill.
