Rail advocates urge closer look at high-speed train travel

Source: USA Today
Pittsburgh's proposed magnetic levitation or "maglev" train system is one of seven projects cited as examples of high speed rail travel possibilities in this recent USA Today article.

Advocates of high-speed rail travel say that high gasoline prices, ever-worsening traffic jams and decreasing numbers of flights offered by airlines are all good reasons for Americans to consider alternatives to the automobile.

The proposed system would link the Pittsburgh airport, downtown and the eastern suburban centers of Monroeville and Greensburg. Maglev technology involves train cars being held aloft above a track and propelled by magnetic fields to speeds of 300 mph and higher.
